NEW FROM THE LRC
The LRC is ready for the students of Visitation School. New books are cataloged and on a special cart for all to view. We are very excited!
The classes come down at an assigned time for a 30 minute class. At that time, we discuss the new books that have been acquired, and any new books a student would like to see on our shelf. As the year proceeds, we learn the necessary library skills to enable one to be independent in a library situation.
The Accelerated Reader Program is all ready for the classes. The students read a book of their choice. When they have finished the book, they take a test "on-line". This tests them on their comprehension skills. It is so much fun to take a test, and see how you have done.
For now, I would like to review the procedure on an overdue library book. The books are checked out and can be kept for a 15 day period. We give the students and overdue notice at that time. It does have the price of the book on it. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THAT. Just help your student look for the book and return it to the LRC as soon as possible. If the student can not find the book after two or three weeks, then we ask them to pay $6.00 for a replacement book. So remember, when the first overdue slips go out, you do not pay for the books immediately. HAVE THE STUDENTS LOOK IN THEIR FAVORITE PLACES FIRST. UNDER THE BED, IN THE FAMILY BOOK CASE AND IN THE CAR TRUNK. (My personal experience has helped me to know those famous places.)
As always, I am looking forward to the first week of library.
Mrs. Cooney.
