5TH GRADE NEWS Updated: May 2010
We are very busy as the school year draws to a close. We enjoyed seeing the many diverse talents of our students during the "Talent Show"! Before you know it, it will be time for the class picnic, summer vacation, and then on to 6th grade! We have had a wonderful year and will truly miss these delightful students.
Religion- We are continuing our study of Unit 4 - Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. In this unit we learn that Christ offers us forgiveness and healing through the sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. We will realize that our conscience helps us judge whether something is right or wrong. During May we will celebrate our blessed mother, Mary, as well as offer thanks for the many blessings of our own mothers.
Language Arts- We are currently in the Person to Person theme. The selections we will read in this theme focus on the relationships between two people. Our grammar focus in on prepositions, conjuctions and interjections.
Science- We have just concluded our study of "matter". We have begun learning about genetics. Last week we did a "webquest" to learn more about inherited and learned traits. Be sure to ask your fifth grader about the "webquest"!
Social Studies- Our "State Report" persentations are wonderful. The students are in the midst of presenting reports to the class on the specific state they chose. They have also prepared a PowerPoint presentation. The students have used their many creative talents on these wonderful presentations. We are also studying the Civil War including its' causes and life in the United States after the war.
Math- We are currently on lesson 110. We will be learning how to multiply and divide mixed numbers as well as decimal numbers. Please remember to practice your facts!
